RISK SAFETY SYSTEMS -
IECS – With Purpose Built 7ft x 7ft Skid Designed to Accommodate ONE or TWO 12/24 or 30 Man Life Rafts
Purpose 7ft x 7ft Skid with access gate top chute container with hydraulically dampened lid, can be supplied to customer specific dimensions if required.
Front mounted life raft cradle suitable for qty two x 12, 24 and 30 man SOLAS rated A or B pack self righting life rafts.
Lower chute container with trap door that houses the escape chute, 25/30 man debarkation/boarding raft and stabilization plate.
The stabilization plate weight is calculated using customer supplied met ocean data and is calculated using the RSS modeling program.
Qty four x 15400Ib Kevlar ropes are used to support the stabilization plate and are attached under the main skid assembly using heavy duty shackles, the Kevlar ropes run alongside the escape chute system and through the debarkation raft and attached to the stabilization plate that sits below the water at between 6/10ft.
The main Kevlar support cables are attached to the chute in the middle and at the last ring on the escape chute. The cables run freely through the carabineers, this keeps the chute column inside the Kevlar support ropes but the chute at no time hold the weight from the stabilization plate.
For variable height applications any unused sections of the netted chute remain in the base of the debarkation raft when the vessel or platform is in a ballast down condition.
Risk Safety Systems IECS Escape Chute Systems are designed to be mechanical and reduce failure to the lowest possible levels. No hydraulics, pneumatics or electrical assistance is required. The deployment mechanism is the mechanical wind down type, and is synchronized to release the lower chute trap door and front mounted life rafts cradle at the same time. The IECS is low maintenance, reliable and available on demand.

IECS – With Purpose Built 7ft x 7ft Skid Designed to Accommodate the ONE or TWO 50 Man Life Rafts.
Purpose 7ft x 7ft Skid with access gate top chute container with hydraulically dampened lid, can be supplied to customer specific dimensions if required.
Front mounted life raft cradle suitable for qty two x 50 man SOLAS rated A or B pack self righting life rafts.
Lower chute container with trap door that houses the escape chute, 25/30 man
debarkation/boarding raft and stabilization plate.
The stabilization plate weight is calculated using customer supplied met ocean
data and is calculated using the RSS modeling program.

The main Kevlar support cables are attached to the chute in the middle and at the last ring on the escape chute. The cables run freely through the carabineers, this keeps the chute column inside the Kevlar support ropes but the chute at no time is holding any weight from the stabilization plate.
For Variable height applications any unused sections of the netted chute remain in the base of the debarkation raft when the vessel or platform is in a ballast down condition.
IECS – With Purpose Built 14ft x 14ft Cantilever Frame.
If deck space is at a minimum and a 7ft x 7ft cut out is not available with an uninterrupted drop to sea level, Risk Safety Systems can provide a purpose built heavy duty cantilever frame.
The RSS Cantilever frame is built in line with customer requirements and all structural calculations are provided to support the design and manufacturer.
The cantilever frame is designed to allow the 7ft x 7ft skid to drop and bolt in and can be easily removed for service or inspection.
In all cases RSS design the frame based on customers fitting location and in most cases structural information is required to ensure the location is suitable.
RSS recently built and supplied eight IECS systems for Exxon Mobil Kiz A/B FPSO’s in Angola. Each system was supplied with a cantilever frame which is shown in the photos to the left.
Risk Safety Systems IECS Escape Chute Systems are designed to be low maintenance
when compared to Life Boats and similar systems available on the market. The IECS
should be inspected by the customer on a monthly basis. RSS provide monthly and
quarterly inspection and maintenance schedules. RSS will carry out the annual inspections
which would include testing and re-

NOTE: Safety awareness is vital when using any type of evacuation system; the same applies with the IECS. Always follow instructions and ensure you are fully trained before access to the facility where the system is installed. If in doubt ASK! If you need more training ASK!
Risk Safety Systems provide Train the Trainer courses either at our facility or at the customers or at site.
Train the Trainer programs allow our customers to select key personnel who will undertake a one day course. Each candidate is then certified as trainers for a period of two years.
The trainers can provide on site training and issue certificates for all relevant personnel.
All personnel must undergo a minimum of Two hours training combination classroom and practical using the training chute before access to the facility where the IECS is installed.
All personnel will be assessed on their capability by the trainer identifying any persons who have a fear of heights, vertigo or any other height related phobias. Fully document each person’s condition or phobia and earmark for extended training.
The IECS is a vertical descent device and as such all users must be fully familiarized with this type of evacuation procedure before gaining access the facility on which it is used.
During evacuation be aware of your surroundings and any hazards that may be present, stay calm at all times and try not to panic. Ensure you have read the operational manual and fully understand the Facility muster and evacuation procedures. Follow directions of designated personnel (see next slide).
Familiarize yourself with all written instructions that are provided with IECS system and located in front of the skid and attached to the hand rails.

In an emergency where personnel are required to evacuate using the IECS the following procedure should be followed: Assemble at the IECS muster station. Persons designated Topsides Chute Access Supervisor (TCAS), Debarkation Raft Supervisor (DRS), Life Raft 1 & 2 Access Supervisors (LRAS) commence duties:

Topsides Chute Access Supervisor (TCAS) -

Debarkation Raft Supervisor (DRS) -

Life Raft Access Supervisor 1 & 2 (LRAS) -

STEP 1 -
STEP 2 -
STEP 3 -
On impacting the water the two SOLAS life rafts float awaiting inflation by the LRAS; they are connected to the bottom ring of the netted chute via their painter lines.
STEP 4 – TACS, DRS & LRAS take stations. Personnel begin the decent into the debarkation raft ready to transfer to the two SOLAS life rafts.
Note: in all cases evacuees must enter the chute front facing, the chute container is marked with two directional arrows and a notice stating
(Enter Chute This Way).
STEP 5 – Crew traverse into the debarkation raft and transfer to the two SOLAS life rafts.
STEP 6 – TCAS & DRS enter Life Raft.
STEP 7 – LRAS-
Life rafts may then be moved away from the facility.
